Period 9 flying stars, explained for Singapore homes

Fengshui runs on 20-year cycles, and we changed cycle recently: Period 9 began on 4 February 2024 and runs until 3 February 2044. If your last reading, or your parents' last reading, dates from before 2024, it was calculated for a world that has since rotated.

What a flying-star chart is

Xuan Kong flying stars (玄空飛星) is the classical school that maps nine "stars" - numbered 1 to 9, each with its own character - onto the nine sectors of your home: the eight compass directions plus the centre. The placement is pure arithmetic. It is computed from exactly two inputs:

1. The period the chart is set in (Period 9 for anything charted today)
2. Your main door's facing degree, resolved to one of the 24 mountains

Same inputs, same chart, every time. What changed when Period 9 arrived

Each star's strength depends on the current period. Under Period 9 the mainstream Xuan Kong reading is:

• Star 9 (Purple 9, 九紫) is the reigning star until 2044: visibility, celebration, fast-moving opportunity. Sectors carrying a timely 9 are ones you want to actually live in.
• Star 1 (White 1, 一白) is the incoming star: career momentum and quiet accumulation. Also worth engaging.
• Star 8 (White 8, 八白) reigned until 2024 and has just retired: still gentle, but do not build growth plans on it. Homes arranged around their "8" sectors in the last cycle are the main losers of the period change.
• Star 5 (Yellow 5, 五黃) is afflicted in every period: the sector holding it wants quiet, not activity.
• The remaining stars (2, 3, 4, 6, 7) each carry specific risks when disturbed - from disputes (3) to loss and burglary (7).

What a chart means in renovation terms

A chart on its own is just numbers on a grid. The useful step is joining it to your actual floor plan: which star pair sits over your bedroom, your stove, your desk. That is what turns into practical verdicts.

Do I need a new reading because of Period 9?

If your home was last charted in Period 8 (2004 to 2024): the natal chart of a building is generally tied to when it was built or last significantly renovated, so schools differ on when a home "becomes" Period 9. What is not in dispute is that each star's timeliness has changed - an "8" room is no longer what it was in 2015, and the timely stars to live around are now 9 and 1.
