The 2026 annual stars: where not to renovate your Singapore home this year
On top of your home's fixed Period 9 chart sits a layer that moves: the annual flying stars (流年飛星). They shift one step every year, changing over not on 1 January but at li chun (立春), around 4 February. The 2026 annual stars run from early February 2026 to early February 2027 - and they decide which parts of your home want quiet this year.
The two sectors to keep quiet in 2026
The South carries the Five Yellow (五黃) in 2026. The Five Yellow is the one star treated as afflicted in every period - the classical guidance, and the conservative one, is simple: do not hack, drill, or break ground in the south sector of your home this year. If your renovation can sequence the noisy work in the south for after early February 2027, sequence it. If your main door or stove already sits in the south, this is a year for keeping that sector calm and well-maintained, not for activating it.
The Northwest carries Black 2 (二黑), the illness star, in 2026. Same logic at lower intensity: avoid starting invasive works in the northwest, and if a bedroom sits there, favour rest and low stimulation over bold changes this year.
Tai Sui: the direction not to face down
2026 is a Horse year, which places Tai Sui (太歲, the Grand Duke) in the S2 mountain - the 15-degree sector centred on due south, 172.5 to 187.5 degrees. Renovating "toward" Tai Sui, or aggressively disturbing that exact sector, is classically avoided. Directly opposite sits Sui Po (歲破) in the north around 0 degrees, which also prefers to be left undisturbed.
Notice the overlap: in 2026 both the Five Yellow and Tai Sui sit in the south. That makes south-sector renovation the single clearest thing to defer this year in any Singapore home - HDB, condo or landed.
What 2026 rewards
The flip side of the annual cycle: the reigning star 9 visits the Southeast in 2026, and the incoming star 1 sits in the centre of the chart. Sectors carrying the year's timely stars are the ones to actually use - the rooms to work in, host in, and spend waking hours in this year.

Looking ahead: 2027 moves the problem north
At li chun 2027 the Five Yellow moves from the south to the north, and Tai Sui moves to the southwest (Goat year). So a renovation you defer out of the south in 2026 should not be casually rescheduled into the north for 2027. The honest caveat
Annual-star guidance is timing hygiene, not fortune-telling: it tells you when a sector prefers quiet, so that if you are renovating anyway, you can sequence the work at near-zero cost instead of finding out later. It is cultural guidance for planning a renovation, not professional advice.
